Unity Tutorial 04

Hello and welcome back to another unity tutorial!  It is finally reading week!! I am still working a lot so it wasn't necessarily a break but it felt nice for my eyes and brain to get somewhat of a break for a while!  I have completed two more sections of the unity tutorials! I found the tutorials easy to follow but sometimes hard. The tutorials are very helpful to me in the aspect of my game. I found that the tutorial for Automatic spawn wouldn't be very useful to my game but it gave me good knowledge and was also very fun to learn! It was also very useful to learn how to collide animals with objects or people. I fell like this part of the tutorial could help me in my game and be vital to know. I would use this part of the tutorial when I want to create the obstacle course of my game when the dogs collide with an object in the obstacle course.  The challenge 'tutorial' was quite difficult. Even using the hint was hard. The hits did help me to an extent but I had to us

Unity Tutorial 03

Hello!! In today's blog,  I will be sharing what I learned from Unity Tutorial 03. In this tutorial we got to add animals to our game, this was very exciting because I am basing my own game on dogs so it was really helpful to see my choice of dogs and how to add them to the prototype! I also learned how to stop the player and animals to not fall off the edge of the terrain and this will also help me in my future game. I also really need to learn how to somehow split the screen with the tutorial and my unity tab. That would be a lot easier than having to move the windows! I will be sure to learn how to do that for the next time! I have to admit, I found some of the tutorials hard because sometimes I can't get them to work. My code could be slightly off and it would hold up the production of the whole prototype. I will get there eventually! I never really look forward to doing the unity tutorials because the time length of them seem so daunting but I really enjoyed these tutorial

Games MDA

Hello!  In today's blog post, I will be expressing my thoughts and sharing notes about MDA and partially DDE. I've read two articles and watched one video mostly about MDA and some DDE. I read  MDA: A Formal Approach to Game Design and Game Research  by Robin Hunicke, Marc LeBlanc, Robert Zubek and  Design, Dynamics, Experience (DDE)  by Wolfgang walk, Mark Barrett and Daniel Görlich. I also watched  Explaining the MDA Design Framework | Video Game Design  by a YouTube Chanel called 'The Last Bacon'. All three sources were amazing and described the MDA and DDE framework very well.  Today, I have learned that design methodology supports a designer by helping them determine the end result of their game. It will strengthen the iterative processes of developers, scholars and researchers. MDA stands for Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics which are all game elements. The MDA framework is supposed to represent the lens or view of the game from both the developer and players

Feedback Strategies

Hello!  Today I will be talking about different feedback strategies. Last week I spoke about my thoughts on feedback in general but today I will be going into more dept and talk about how I can give feedback to someone else as well as my general thoughts. I have read two articles about feedback:  Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback  by  Marshall Goldsmith and  How to Give Feedback Without Sounding Like a Jerk  by Adam Grant.  The first article I read was  Try feedforward instead of feedback . I found this article very interesting and the title immediately caught my eye. In the article, Goldsmith talks about both the positive and negative sides of feedback. Goldsmith says that feedback can benefit a person but also can focus on the past and what has already occurred. He then suggests using the method of 'feedforward'. This is when a person suggests how to improve in the future and suggests help. I have never heard of feedforward until I read this article and its clear already t

Game idea research

Hello everyone!  I have finally decided on a game idea that I want to recreate! It wasn't particularly difficult for me to chose but I knew it would have to be a choice between two games! I wanted to choose between either flappy bird or Nintendogs! I chose... Nintendogs!!! I named my game "Puppy Paws". I chose Nintendogs because I was always interested in the game itself and I thought that it could be a potential challenge to recreate the game. I know, why do I want a challenge when I am already drowning in work that I have barely any time to do? I don't have the answer to that question just yet but let's hope the challenge is worth it! Nintendogs has a lot of elements to it that is impossible for me to create this semester. I plan to take out a lot of difficulty to the game and only focus on the basics but with a twist!   To start, the dog owner (the player)will own a puppy. They must name it and train it! Basic training will have already been complete (learning

Feedback Thoughts

Hello again! Today I will be talking about my thoughts on feedback and my thoughts on two articles I have read about feedback. I, personally like the idea of feedback, yes it may be scary sometimes but most of the time there is the feedback it would be constructive criticism. Constructive criticism helps improve ones work and potentially change the way one does their work again. There is a lot to learn from getting feedback and I feel if one gets feedback regularly they can know what level they are on and tweak their work before its too late and have to change it all or get a lower grade. When I look back on my many years of learning I can specifically remember a time where feedback was very positive to me. When I was in transition year we had to do a musical, I am an extremely shy person and had to so singing auditions. I was so nervous the first time I had to do the music audition. My first audition went extremely well and I was given great feedback. I wasn't as nervous on my n

Game Brainstorm

Hello and welcome back!! Today I will be brainstorming four game ideas from original games but potentially putting my own twist on them. I have chose four games all which I am familiar with. The games include: Flappy Bird, Mario Kart, Nintendogs and Dr Driving. Flappy Bird Flappy Bird is a mobile or PC game. It is a 2D game where the player controls the yellow bird by tapping on the screen or pressing the space bar. The aim of the game is to beat your high score by flying the bird through the gaps of the green pipes. If the player crashes into the green pipes it is GAME OVER. The original flappy bird game was launched in 2014 and had 50 million downloads by January 2014. The game was taken off all App Stores in May 2014, the original creator made the decision to delete his game as there were too much addiction and frustration playing the game. Flappy bird was trending for some time and a lot of trending stories were people smashing and breaking their phones over this game. Today there
