Games MDA

 Hello!

In today's blog post, I will be expressing my thoughts and sharing notes about MDA and partially DDE. I've read two articles and watched one video mostly about MDA and some DDE. I read MDA: A Formal Approach to Game Design and Game Research by Robin Hunicke, Marc LeBlanc, Robert Zubek and Design, Dynamics, Experience (DDE) by Wolfgang walk, Mark Barrett and Daniel Görlich. I also watched Explaining the MDA Design Framework | Video Game Design by a YouTube Chanel called 'The Last Bacon'. All three sources were amazing and described the MDA and DDE framework very well.

Today, I have learned that design methodology supports a designer by helping them determine the end result of their game. It will strengthen the iterative processes of developers, scholars and researchers. MDA stands for Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics which are all game elements. The MDA framework is supposed to represent the lens or view of the game from both the developer and players perspective. Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics are all different elements that make up a game and allow the understanding of game systems, development of game techniques which leads to an outcome of desired controls.

MDA framework is the most commonly used framework but it is being criticised for not suiting all games. Another framework called DDE framework was introduced as an attempt to fill many weaknesses of the MDA framework. DDE stands for Design, Dynamics and Experience. These are also game design elements but override MDA or are more effective. Design, Dynamics and Experience framework aren't necessarily stages of production like Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics. Instead, they are what must be understood to set up an effective iteration process for creating a game.

Game Brainstorm

Hello and welcome back!! Today I will be brainstorming four game ideas from original games but potentially putting my own twist on them. I have chose four games all which I am familiar with. The games include: Flappy Bird, Mario Kart, Nintendogs and Dr Driving. Flappy Bird Flappy Bird is a mobile or PC game. It is a 2D game where the player controls the yellow bird by tapping on the screen or pressing the space bar. The aim of the game is to beat your high score by flying the bird through the gaps of the green pipes. If the player crashes into the green pipes it is GAME OVER. The original flappy bird game was launched in 2014 and had 50 million downloads by January 2014. The game was taken off all App Stores in May 2014, the original creator made the decision to delete his game as there were too much addiction and frustration playing the game. Flappy bird was trending for some time and a lot of trending stories were people smashing and breaking their phones over this game. Today t...

My thoughts on technology tools and course websites I will be using

Hello again!! In today's blog post I will be writing about technology tools and course websites I will be using throughout this semester. This semester we will be using technology tools such as Blogger, Diigo (bookmarking tool), Pinterest, image editing and graphics creators such as Canvas, Cheezburger and Automotivator. I will also be using Padlet, Unity 3D and WordPress. I haven't heard of all these tools but I am sure I will find out soon. I have only used blogger (obviously) and Pinterest which I love. it is so handy and you can find anything you are looking for on it!! I use Pinterest to look for images for my blog! Our class will be directed by using our class website. the website includes all our weekly tasks and demonstrations which I find extremely helpful. We can also access each other's blogs through links on the website, this will save a lot of time trying to find everyone's blogs and give us all easy access! The class website is the most helpful thing this...
